Optegnelser fra Sundholm 1908-1999
(Notes from Sundholm 1908-1999)
2023
Installation in various materials made for the group exhibition Wet, Work at Fabrikken for Kunst og Design in Copenhagen. The installation is based on a collection of objects originating from Sundholm, an area from 1908 built as a labour / forced labour camp for marginalized groups in Copenhagen. The institution used to be almost like parallel society, closed off from the public, with guarded gates and a three meter deep moat surrounding it. Nowadays the area consists of a mix of social institutions, a hostel for homeless people, public housing and also Fabrikken for Kunst og Design, a former institutional laundry building that is now a studio space for artist with an exhibition room in the main hall. In 1999, a collection of objects from 1908-then, from the labour camp Sundholm was gathered and is now stored at a magazine in Forsorgsmuseet in the city of Svendborg. I was allowed to look through the magazine, and made a selection of objects that I continued working with through drawings, prints, etc. that also made reference to their current status, as conserved and hidden away in boxes in a magazine.
